Le due curatrici di questa nuova collana dedicata ad autrici siciliane la propongono effettivamente come una novità editoriale: non che recentemente non ci siano almeno due scrittrici, Cristina Cassar Scalia e Simona Tanzini, autrici di gialli di successo, ma nel caso di Marilina Giaquinto sembra che l’attenzione sia rivolta essenzialmente alla costruzione di una lingua, un siciliano contaminato con un italiano letterario, che supera la trama della storia.
I protagonisti del romanzo Non rompere niente (Euno Edizioni, 2020) sono due: il commissario alle soglie della pensione, Anastasio Ventura, e una poliziotta del suo commissariato, Maria Lo Faro detta Isola. La storia si svolge infatti in una piccola isola vulcanica di fronte a una mai nominata Sicilia. Al centro del romanzo una storia torbida e sanguinosa che si svolge all’interno di una grande villa solitaria, dove vive una donna bella e strana, intorno alla quale nel tempo si sono svolte morti misteriose e misteriosi avvenimenti. Ventura, garbato e silenzioso, è circuito della bionda Maria, esuberante nel fisico, nei sentimenti, negli approcci; ragazza madre di estrazione popolare, è una coltissima cinefila e in una lingua impastata di dialetto espone al suo capo pillole di filosofia esistenziale, cibi siciliani di cui lei è una esperta cuoca, sogni di crescita professionale, desideri sessuali inconfessati.
Mentre il commissario e la sua squadra sono chiamati a indagare su un tentato omicidio collegato con la donna che vive nella villa, il libro si concentra soprattutto sui lunghi dialoghi e le schermaglie tra i due protagonisti, che occupano il centro della scena. Si appostano insieme nella villa misteriosa, prendono insieme l’aliscafo che li porta in città per incontrare il loro superiore, lei non fa che tentarlo con cibi appetitosi mentre si fa prestare libri che non comprende: Anastasio è un lettore vorace, il suo modesto alloggio sopra il commissariato è pieno di libri; Maria invece è intrisa di trame di film, le sue preferenze vanno ai grandi maestri, soprattutto Hitchcock, di cui cita intere celebri sequenze per avvalorare le sue intuizioni investigative.
Il romanzo è un po’ squilibrato, come se la parte dei delitti irrisolti fosse meno importante dell’incontro/scontro tra i due protagonisti, che finiranno semplicemente, dopo tante incertezze e resistenze, a pranzo insieme.
Ci sono molti silenzi in questo libro, molte ambiguità, molti non detti: amore, morte, violenza, vendetta, solitudine, abbandono, sangue e follia sono gli ingredienti con cui si mescolano interni ricchi e pieni di tradizione, corridoi d’ospedale, squallidi alloggi d’ordinanza e un mare cupo che circonda persone, sentimenti, sensibilità ferite. La giustizia però è l’obiettivo di Ventura, difficile da ottenere in quella terra che ha visto troppe invasioni, troppe sopraffazioni, troppi sbagli, troppa oscurità, che le ha impedito di guardare la chiarezza del sole, che pure brilla nel cielo. Una lingua infarcita di metafore, di numerose figure retoriche, di pasticci di parole che creano sapori aspri, duri, dolcissimi, come i suoi famosi piatti, i suoi dolci, i suoi pesci cucinati in modo inarrivabile, i suoi fritti.
