“Matematica e Arte. Forme del pensiero artistico” è un progetto nato dall’attività di ricerca scientifica e di sperimentazione condotta nell’ambito del Progetto Lauree Scientifiche tra scuole e università. Laura Castatini, docente di matematica e fisica nelle scuole secondarie di Pisa, dal 2000 lavora alla Facoltà di Scienze dell’Università di Roma Tor Vergata e nel suo ricco e articolato curriculum vanta anche la partecipazione al progetto Con la mente e con le mani presso l’Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, oltre a diverse pubblicazioni. Franco Ghione è professore ordinario di Geometria presso la Facoltà di Scienze Matematiche Fisiche e Naturali dell’Università di Roma Tor Vergata e ha un ricchissimo curriculum. Ha maturato esperienze collegate alle scuole medie superiori, quale responsabile dei percorsi formativi abilitanti all’insegnamento dei docenti di scuole medie e ha svolto anche diverse attività in università straniere, dalla Svizzera all’India, al Canada e al Brasile.
“Matematica e Arte. Forme del pensiero artistico” raccoglie esperienze realizzate in diverse scuole italiane sperimentando percorsi di studi innovativi coinvolgendo professori universitari e docenti di scuole superiori anche attraverso attività svolte in laboratorio.
“L’esperienza ha avuto molto successo sia tra gli studenti che hanno partecipato direttamente all’attività laboratoriale sia tra i professori che hanno trovato in questo nuove occasioni di crescita professionale: gli universitari entrando nel vivo della problematica realtà scolastica, gli insegnanti in una nuova forma di aggiornamento disciplinare e metodologico. Tra i tantissimi temi proposti e sviluppati in tutta Italia abbiamo raccolto, in questo libro, quelle esperienze particolarmente centrate sul binomio matematica-arte con un duplice obiettivo: da un lato avvicinare le menti curiose a quella matematica, spesso tutt’altro che banale, che ha profondamente interagito con l’espressione artistica e, dall’altro, di offrire agli insegnanti tutto il materiale prodotto nelle effettive esperienze laboratoriali, presentandolo come un nuovo strumento didattico proponibile, in toto o in parte, in varie forme e a vari livelli, nella loro diretta attività con gli allievi”.
Molte sono le immagini nel libro che facilitano la comprensione di alcuni passaggi geometrico-matematici e che consentono di facilitare il processo cognitivo e mnemonico e si va dalle relazioni tra la curva catenaria e la cupola di Santa Maria del Fiore di Brunelleschi, alle tassellazioni dell’Alhambra e di Escher, analizzando il tema della prospettiva e dell’omologia, con riferimento a Piero della Francesca. Il libro è ricchissimo di riferimenti anche a Luca Pacioli e Leonardo Da Vinci e a tanti altri matematici ed artisti. Il CD allegato riporta il materiale prodotto e utilizzato: vi sono infatti contenuti animazioni, slides, tavole di lavoro, filmati, ecc., e risulta di grande utilità sia per i professori che vogliano estrapolare e riproporre qualche percorso formativo, sia per
“chi intenda, per gioco o per interesse, ripercorrere, in forma autodidatta, alcune tappe di questo percorso.”
