Sulla scia dei thriller di ambiente scandinavo, è pubblicato dalla casa editrice Nord il primo romanzo dell’esordiente Jørgen Brekke. Norvegese di Trondheim, colto e raffinato narratore di una storia che ambientata nel presente, ma in realtà ha radici molto profonde in una serie di personaggi storici del ’500: lo stampatore veneziano Aldo Manuzio, l’anatomista Vesalio, il maestro veneto Alessandro Benedetti, anch’egli studioso dei segreti del corpo umano, corpi che allora venivano vivisezionati per scoprire il funzionamento degli organi più interni, servendosi dei cadaveri dei condannati a morte. Il narratore parte da fatti storici per lo più documentati per costruire un thriller mozzafiato, soprattutto per il mix tra cultura, libri, biblioteche, scrittori e un assassino misterioso che proprio in quell’ambiente compie delitti efferati che si concludono con lo scuoiare le vittime per usarne la pelle come pergamena su cui scrivere o per rilegare libri...
L’atrocità dei fatti narrati con ritmo e vera suspense viene in parte mitigata dalla simpatia dei personaggi, in particolare l’ispettore della polizia norvegese Odd Singsaker, reduce da una grave operazione al cervello e dall’abbandono di sua moglie, e la sua omologa americana Felicia Stone, poliziotta sveglia ed intuitiva. E’ lei a capire che il delitto orrendo perpetrato nel museo Edgar Allan Poe di Richmond, Virginia, nel quale ha trovato la morte un innocuo bibliotecario americano, ha molte, troppe somiglianze con un analogo delitto avvenuto nella biblioteca Gunnerus, di Trondheim, Norvegia. La biblioteca custodisce un prezioso e misterioso manoscritto su pergamena, il libro del prete Johannes, risalente al XVI secolo, che risulterà al centro della catena di delitti, sempre più violenti e misteriosi. Inutile dire che la collaborazione tra americani e norvegesi passa per l’intesa tra i due poliziotti, mentre gli altri personaggi restano sullo sfondo, a parte la giovane bibliotecaria Siri Holm, nuova assunta in biblioteca ma curiosa e sempre al centro della storia.
Chi sarà l’autore dei delitti, capace di scuoiare le vittime per prenderne la pelle, da usare come rilegatura di preziosi manoscritti? Un fanatico collezionista di opere rare? Una studiosa-falsaria? Un bibliotecario già accusato della sparizione dei suoi familiari?
Nulla di più può essere rivelato a chi vorrà leggere questo libro originale, pieno di storia letteraria mescolata con bisturi e coltelli affilatissimi che arrivano dal passato e non lasciano scampo alle vittime. Buona lettura per chi ha stomaci forti e amore per gli ambienti che conservano, restaurano, rilegano, collezionano, raccolgono e mitizzano i libri, soprattutto se vengono dal passato!!!
