Un altro romanzo che arriva da un finalista di Masterpiece, il programma televisivo che ha cercato di valorizzare la scrittura di nuovi autori; c’è in parte riuscito e Fight Night di Stefano Trucco lo dimostra.
La storia, ambientata a Genova, ha come protagonisti principali due sportivi giovanissimi: Alessandro e Ettore, nomi altisonanti, epici, ma, nel romanzo storie di vita complicate e tristi.
Alessandro sta ancora elaborando il lutto per la morte del padre, il suicidio di un uomo sempre alla ricerca di soldi, tra gli intrallazzi e le collusioni anche della politica locale.
Ettore, invece, è il figlio del primo uomo ucciso a Kabul dai talebani, un carabiniere partito volontario.
Nell’economia del romanzo la storia dei padri prende non più di due pagine, ma è importante capire poi il trascorso di questi due ragazzi, che sembrano alieni rispetto a un percorso solito che vede scuola e università o scuola e lavoro.
Stefano Trucco scrive in modo impeccabile di un ambiente fatto di palestre, odore acre di sudore, combattimenti, gente intorno poco raccomandabile, che forse nella realtà non gli appartiene, non rende Alessandro e Ettore simpatici, anzi questo ultimo viene descritto quasi come una persona pericolosa per sé e per gli altri.
I due gareggiano spesso con ragazzi dell’Est, che non capiscono l’italiano, possono essere clandestini, le loro vite si consumano nella violenza e nell’emarginazione.
Donne e ragazze, nella prima parte, fanno solo da sfondo, come Carolina, che pur sembrando una ragazza cattolica e umile, conosce benissimo l’ambiente dei kickboxer.
E poi c’è Genova, città che fa da contorno al racconto, sempre buia e piovosa, che sembra abbracciare le vite inutili o semplicemente prive di un destino di redenzione. Come già accennavo, la scrittura di Trucco nella prima parte del libro è centrata, chiara, mentre i capitoli finali soffrono di storie parallele e digressioni (ma che non sono necessariamente un difetto in un libro di quasi quattrocento pagine).
Non roviniamo la lettura a nessuno, se si rivela che Alessandro e Ettore combatteranno insieme. Anzi questo lo si capisce dall’inizio, proprio perché inevitabile.
Stefano Trucco scrive un libro originale dove si mischiano atmosfere cittadine, palestre, scontri. Lo si legge di corsa, sempre alla ricerca di una nuova avventura e col rischio di dimenticare qualcosa. Come nella vita.
