Édith Piaf e la canzone dell’amore (Giunti 2019, titolo originale "Madame Piaf und das lied der liebe", traduzione di Elena Broseghini) di Michelle Marly narra la storia d’amore tra Édith Piaf (Parigi, 1915 - Grasse 1963) e Yves Montand (Monsummano Terme 1921 – Senlis 1991).
La città ancora non brillava del fulgido splendore di prima della guerra, ma le norme sull’oscuramento erano state ampiamente cancellate.
Parigi, 1944. Nella Ville Lumière non marciavano più gli stivali degli occupanti tedeschi, ma gli unici soldati erano francesi o Alleati, soprattutto i soldati americani della Quarta divisione di fanteria che avevano liberato Parigi. Per questi nuovi clienti i locali stavano riaprendo uno dopo l’altro. Per un giovane poco più che ventenne si stava alzando il sipario dell’ABC, teatro musicale e “luogo di chi contava davvero nella musica”. Il ragazzo, dal viso lungo e dai capelli scuri, indossava abiti troppo ampi per il suo corpo sottile. Durante la sua esibizione lo chansonnier si inchinava in avanti con le spalle ammiccando al pubblico. In sala era presente la celebre cantante Édith Piaf la quale aveva debuttato a ventun anni nello stesso locale.
Durante l’esibizione di Montand, la “Mome Piaf” il passerotto, come veniva chiamata, alludendo alla sua breve altezza e al suo carattere impertinente e indipendente, ripensava ai suoi esordi e alla sua travagliata infanzia. La donna, dal naso lungo e affilato e dai capelli scuri, era dotata di una voce limpida e bella. Edith, pur non essendo appariscente incantava anche grazie alla magia dei suoi occhi marroni. Però quella sera il giovane Yves non stava convincendo la Piaf.
Si stupì che dal pubblico non piovessero sul palco fischi o grida di scherno.
La cantante non poteva ancora sapere che tra lei e Montand sarebbe nato un travolgente amore. Inoltre la Piaf avrebbe aiutato Yves in maniera determinante a sfondare nel mondo della canzone. “L’abbraccio di lui aveva tinto la sua vita di rosa, dissolvendo tutto il grigio”. All’ombra della Tour Eiffel iniziava una nuova era e un nuovo amore.
L’autrice tedesca dipinge un ritratto di una donna dalla regale semplicità che cantando voleva donare gioia al suo pubblico. Alla fine del volume la scrittrice rivela che il suo intento era “mostrare Édith Piaf nel periodo del suo fulgore” rendendo omaggio alla sua maestria.
La vita è meravigliosa. Ci sono momenti in cui si vorrebbe morire. Ma poi capita qualcosa di nuovo, e si crede di essere in paradiso.
