In quel giorno di marzo del 2010, ancora un giorno di Prime Volte, la trentacinquenne Katie che ora si faceva chiamare Kate, ripensava a tutti gli errori commessi in passato. Indietro, però non si può tornare per cancellare quello che non può essere cancellato. La svolta nella vita di Katie era avvenuta quando dopo la laurea aveva accettato il lavoro alla Winsome Wilderness
“per poter fare la differenza, aiutare i più deboli, per tendere una mano a quelli che non erano stati fortunati quanto lei”.
Se la madre di Katie l’aveva supplicata di non andare in Arizona, così lontana dalla famiglia, Jack l’aveva scongiurata di non andare in campeggio con ragazzine di 13 o 14 anni per aiutarle a imparare a vivere nella natura e cercare di farle stare in riga tra un colloquio e l’altro con gli psicologi. Il dolore che l’uomo è capace di infliggere ai suoi simili, anche in amore, aveva causato a quelle ragazze danni che Katie non avrebbe mai immaginato. Del resto
“Katie aveva sempre avuto bisogno di un obiettivo, un traguardo, qualcosa da raggiungere, ma quel lavoro, l’aveva portata in un luogo fuori e dentro di sé, che fino ad allora non aveva neanche saputo esistesse”.
Quell’atto di generosità era stato la causa di tutto quello che era avvenuto dopo e che avrebbe segnato l’esistenza di Kate per sempre.
“Il primo giorno di primavera conservava un alone di mistero non solo per via delle leggende, dei giuramenti solenni, delle divinità; non solo per quella promessa fatta a 13 anni sotto il salice, ma anche perché Luna, la figlia perduta di Kate e Jack, era nata proprio in quello stesso giorno, tredici anni prima”.
Nelle pagine finali di E poi ti ho trovato (Nord, 2014, titolo originale del volume And Then I Found You, traduzione di Francesca Toticchi) l’autrice statunitense scrive che

Mi sono sempre chiesta che aspetto avessi e dove vivessi”. Il romanzo di un’autrice bestseller che ha già commosso l’America e non mancherà di toccare i cuori dei lettori italiani, narra delle

Una fiaba moderna colma di fede e fiducia, pazienza e attesa.

La narrazione di un sogno che diventa realtà che attende solo di essere letta tutto di un fiato iniziando dall’esergo del volume, preso da una citazione dello scrittore inglese G. K. Chesterton:
“Si ama davvero qualcosa, quando si è consapevoli della possibilità di perderlo”.
