Pubblicato da Astoria a gennaio 2014, Dalla nostra corrispondente di Shulamit Lapid è un giallo in Israele, in provincia, con una protagonista femminile tutta da conoscere.
Be’er Sheva è una città minore del moderno stato d’Israele, ai bordi del deserto del Negev: non è dunque né Gerusalemme, col suo carico di storia, né la moderna Tel Aviv, capitale laica e moderna di quel giovane paese. Si tratta di una città di provincia, dove quasi tutti si conoscono e conoscono la cronista della “Gazzetta del Sud”, la trentenne Lisi Badichi:
“Una persona che non lascia indifferenti , certo che no, con quei suoi piedoni piatti che sembravano pinne di foca, con quel suo petto voluminoso e compresso che, per chi l’avesse dimenticata, faceva venire in mente l’esistenza della forza di gravità”

Certo la descrizione della protagonista di questo giallo, il primo di un sequel che la scrittrice Shulamit Lapid ha pubblicato con buon successo nel suo paese e che ora viene proposto nella traduzione di Elena Loewenthal e Sarah Kaminski, non è affatto lusinghiera, ma nel corso del romanzo ci appassioneremo all’apparente normalità di questa coraggiosa e intraprendente corrispondente, a cui tutti tenteranno di fare le scarpe, non avendo capito che si trovano di fronte un vero osso duro.
Dunque Lisi, perennemente in lotta con il suo direttore che da Tel Aviv minaccia ogni giorno di sostituirla con un giornalista uomo e dunque più esperto, partecipa a una festa per il compleanno di un influente giudice, Pinchas Orensick, che abita con la famiglia in una prestigiosa villa in collina, corredata di piscina, ai bordi della quale la padrona di casa, Alexandra, viene trovata uccisa da un colpo di pistola alla fine della festa, a cui partecipa tutta la gente che conta. Sarà difficile scoprire il colpevole, ma le indagini della polizia, guidate da Benzi, un commissario che è anche il cognato di Lisi, stentano a decollare. Sarà proprio Lisi con la sua protervia e il suo acume investigativo a smuovere l’apparente sonnolenta società, andando a mettere il naso in un kibbutz, nelle case di insoliti personaggi, nei conti bancari di nuovi e intraprendenti affaristi, nel cui giro vorticoso di soldi, non sempre legali, è invischiata la bella Alexandra, che in realtà aveva molte cose da nascondere. Lisi dai piedi di foca, vergine, poco attenta gli uomini pur avendo raggiunto la trentina, finirà per innamorarsi e cambiare il suo atteggiamento di donna nel corso della pericolosa indagine, dove rischierà grosso ma che alla fine riuscirà ad ottenere i riconoscimenti che si è conquistata sul campo.
Un racconto insolito, originale, divertente, ironico e non banale quello costruito dalla scrittrice israeliana, molto nota in patria, che ci mostra ancora una volta la vitalità e l’eterogeneità della letteratura di quel paese, capace di praticare i più diversi generi, senza mai cadere nella ripetizione di stereotipi. Nel testo compare la moderna società israeliana con i suoi difetti, le sue peculiarità che noi europei non siamo abituati a conoscere, legati come siamo ai “mostri sacri” della letteratura ebraica (mi riferisco a Grossman, Yehoshua, Oz) che non sono i soli esponenti di quella grande stagione letteraria. Shulamit Lapid mi ha fatto ripensare a Lizzie Doron, Zeruya Shalev, Savyon Liebrecht, scrittrici e donne capaci di raccontarci la quotidianità, l’amore, il sesso, il lavoro, i rapporti con il potere, spesso corrotto, la difficoltà di vivere in un mondo in perenne pericolo.
