Lo scrittore Max Gallo con Caesar. L’italiano che dominò il mondo (Mondadori, 2005), sotto forma di romanzo, ci fa rivivere la storia dell’uomo che con il suo Impero dominò il mondo per oltre quattro secoli. Oltre che essere stato vincitore su Vercingetorige e amante di Cleopatra, fu anche un brillante scrittore e abile oratore. Giulio Cesare è illustre per la sua abilità politica e militare e per la grande impresa che lo condusse a conquistare l’intero bacino del Mediterraneo, dalla Spagna all’Asia, dall’Egitto alle coste africane, nonostante le difficoltà dovute ai delicati equilibri politici e alla guerra civile con Pompeo. Ma la sua visione politica, che attraverso varie riforme, avrebbe portato ad un nuovo sistema sociale lo resero solo e vulnerabile.
Di questo libro mi è piaciuta molto la facilità di lettura, nonostante non sia una storia molto semplice da raccontare e rendere piacevole. Mi ha piacevolmente attratto tanto da portarmi a leggerlo senza mai stancarmi. Un altro aspetto che mi è piaciuto molto è che è corredato di mappe che portano a capire meglio le conquiste dell’Impero di Giulio Cesare.
Unico difetto a mio avviso, comunque poco rilevante, è stata a volte la lunghezza eccessiva di alcuni capitoli. Lo consiglio molto ad appassionati di romanzi e libri storici.
